Edward R. Reilly Jr. 85, of Tenafly, passed away, surrounded by his family.  Ed was born & raised in Brooklyn, attended Brooklyn Prep High School followed by the College of the Holy Cross.  He was a Naval Ensign & served on the USS Howard D. Crow DE252.  Ed earned his law degree from Fordham Law School after which he joined his father who founded the Independent Property Insurance Adjusting Firm, Edward R. Reilly & Co., Inc. in 1934.  Under Ed’s leadership, this developed into and continues today, to be a family business.

Ed was a member of the ABA, New York Association of Independent Adjusters (President 1968-1969); National Association of Independent Adjusters (President 1973-1974); International Institute of Loss Adjusters (President 1979-1980); Excess Surplus Lines Claims Association (Associate Member); Leading International Property Adjusters (Secretary/Treasurer) and served as Membership Chairman for the Loss Executives Association for 30 years.

Ed was highly respected throughout the insurance industry, having been involved in the adjustment of multi-million dollar property losses throughout the World.  Ed acted as an expert witness at trial and as a consultant to defense/subrogation counsel.

Ed was a Lector, a Eucharistic Minister and has served as a Trustee for Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church since 1974. 

Ed was predeceased by his parents Edward R. and Elsie (nee Stengel), his brother Charles J. and nephew Timothy E.  Ed is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia A. Reilly (nee Rooney), his four children, Edward R. III (Ned), Lynne P., Christopher and Kerry E., daughters-in-law Peggy, Lynn and Jane Savery, as well as five grandchildren, Tara, Edward R. IV, Kyle von Knoblauch, Christopher and Alec as well as countless other family members.  He is also survived by his business partners Charles J. Reilly, Jr. and Peggy Reilly.
