Karl New serves as the Head of Property Claims U.S. for Munich Re America, overseeing both facultative and reinsurance property claims. His role encompasses managing loss accumulation, addressing outliers, and performing claims auditing and analysis for cedent companies. With extensive experience in claims consulting, Karl conducts operational reviews to assess technical quality and overall claims procedures, evaluates reserve adequacy, performs trend analysis studies, and manages litigation and expense control. He also leads workshops and training sessions for Munich Re, The Institute of Fire Science, and The Loss Executives Association, covering topics such as subrogation opportunities, interactions with Public Adjusters, and management of large property losses. Before assuming his current position, Karl was Vice President at Munich Reinsurance America Services, where he specialized in large commercial property and engineering claims within the market layer arena. His career began at American Modern Insurance Group (AMIG), a Munich Re subsidiary, where he worked from Staff Adjuster to General Adjuster over fourteen years. There, he ensured the technical quality of numerous claims, trained and mentored staff, and participated in over 19 major catastrophic events, including Hurricane Katrina and Superstorm Sandy. Additionally, Karl was the primary contact for all arbitration cases. Karl holds a BBA in Risk Management & Insurance with a minor in Finance from Temple University in Philadelphia. He has earned the AIC and SCLA designations and is currently NFIP-certified and licensed in 22 states.
